TriState Area Music Festivals
I mentioned music to be found in the Tri-State area earlier. The Tri-State includes New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and you can catch a number of music festivals in this area for all types of music genres.
Central Park’s Summer Festival
Central Park is New York City’s biggest outdoor venue for hosting music festivals. The City Parks Foundation has been organized festivals for over 25 years that include practically every sound you could wish for. A lot of the shows they put on are free and take place in the summer on their Main Summer Stage. There is also the Rumsey Playfield that hosts gigs that you have to pay for. Its pretty much a music festival that runs through the whole summer season.
Electric Zoo Festival
Located at Randall’s Island Park on the East river of NYC, this festival runs for the labor day weekend and caters to fans of electronic dance music. They have both mainstream acts and new ones, so you get to check out budding artists of this genre.
Hot 97’s Summer Jam
Hosted in Rutherford New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, this festival is held in June and hosted by a well known rap music station. Its been running for 20 years now and hosts acts in the hip hop and pop genre.
Another June music festival that is held on Randall’s Island, Governors Ball offers music from a variety of genres that include electronic, rock, folk music, hip-hop, pop, Americana, and indie to name a few. You will also find a lot of popular NYC restaurants on the scene with their own food trucks and an abundance of outdoor activities like their popular Silent Disco.
Taste of Country
Held in upstate’s Hunter Mountain in NY, this is the only country music gathering to be found in the northeast. It runs in June for 3 days on a huge camp site, so if you like camping this is the place for you. They do have regular accommodations too for those who aren’t too keen on getting down in the mud. You’ll get to see all the best that the country music genre has to offer though!
Gathering of the Vibes
Taking place in Bridgeport Connecticut, Gathering of the Vibes is another camping out festival that is held annually at the end of July/start of August weekend. Its been running for 20 years now and last for 4 days with music legends such as the Grateful Dead, John Fogherty and the Allman brothers. Its known as the launching pad for extraordinary new talent and up and coming bands to showcase what they’ve got.
Michael Arnone’s Crawfish Festival
If you are a lover of Cajun food and music, this is a must see festival that takes place at the end of May in Augusta New Jersey. It originally started out in 1989 as a small group gathering of around 70 people who had a love for crawfish. Its been running for 25 years now and offers New Orleans and Louisiana’s best food and music that includes genres such as Cajun, jazz, zydeco, New Orleans style R&B, Delta Blues and gospel to name but a few.
Again, this is just a smattering of the awesome music festivals to be found in the Tri-State area that people rave about. There are tons more that I want to get to between my mad studying and classes.
